As a Co-Op Medical Assistant you are responsible for providing Physician support and ensuring the facility is running smoothly.
This support is offered through many varied administrative tasks such as patient scheduling, assisting with referrals and authorizations, answering phones, filing, documenting, scanning and faxing.
Co-Op Medical Assistants also perform a variety of clinical duties such as preparing exam rooms, collecting patient vitals and specimens, assisting in minor surgical procedure injections and other routine tasks as assigned.
Our teams utilize a collaborative working model to build connections across our centers and communities.
The primary center for this position is Hudson, OH, though you may also operate in other local work sites on an as needed basis.
Location: 231 Seasons Rd, Hudson, OH 44224 Status: Full-Time Specialty: Primary Care Primary Responsibilities: Attends all required classes as assigned for medical assistant role in accordance with Unity Health Network’s medical assistant program guidelines Collects specimens according to established procedures and per physician order (e.
g.
, blood, urine, stool, sputum, etc.
); performs limited testing of such specimens; logs results, performs minor calculations, gross examinations and logs results Schedules patients and provides instruction for special tests; performs special tests and procedures ordered (e.
g.
, EKG, glucose tolerance, etc.
).
Prepares laboratory requisitions; arranges for transport of specimens to laboratory as appropriate.
Completes consultation forms; notifies consulted physician; schedules consultation appointments; logs appropriately Maintains cleanliness of area and exam rooms; restocks and orders supplies within budgetary constraints; checks and cleans equipment, makes minor adjustments; reports need for repair or maintenance to supervisor Assists physician and/or nurse with special procedures; gathers necessary equipment of instruments; positions patient; responds to instructions given by physician or nurse Participates in care coordination, quality, efficiency and patient satisfaction as defined by the practice Verifies patient insurance and collaborates to monitor ongoing preauthorization needs.
Collects and tracks patient charges; may directly interact with hospital system posting charges; reviews receivable and reporting denials Demonstrate clear understanding of the approved Electronic Medical Record (EMR) chosen by the department; that includes scheduling functions, medical record retrieval, letter generating and other essential access of the EMR for the professional providers.
Checks reminders within EMR, regarding clinical quality measures.
Note: The above stated duties are intended to outline those functions typically performed by the incumbent in this position.

Required Qualification: High School diploma or completion of an equivalent adult education program Preferred Qualifications: CPR and/or BLS certification Ability to collect samples (e.
g.
, blood, throat cultures, etc.
) and to perform limited tests Ability to operate microscope, cameras, videotape, etc.
