Position Summary
The LPN/Triage Desk Nurse provides direct support for incoming patient calls with a variety of orthopaedic specific questions and needs.
In collaboration with the RN and/or provider, utilizes their clinical decision making skills efficiently and uses strong customer service skills.
Responsible for ensuring the appropriate information is related to patients, families, providers, and other applicable entities.
Essential Job Functions/Accountabilities
Answers referred incoming calls promptly; Redirects calls for advice from a provider and appointment booking when necessary; in collaboration with the RN and/or provider determines the urgency of the patient request.
Under the direction of the RN and/or provider, handles patient advice calls, discusses test results, answers patient’s questions, provide instruction and patient education; Provides patient education on provider plan of care; Uses good judgment when giving advice to patients.
Enters E-scribe prescriptions for providers to sign; Phones in prescriptions and documents per physician order in patient chart; Handles prescription prior authorizations.
Documents phone note on each patient call and holds document to provider; Records accurate, concise, legible documentation pertaining to the patient history and phone conversation.
Assists other staff as needed; Demonstrates skill in working with others and getting their cooperation; Delegates work in an effective manner and provides the necessary leadership to ensure work results.
Develops and maintains open, honest, and mutually beneficial relationships with their manager and departments to which he/she is providing services; Maintains flexibility with new ideas and improvements; creates ways to implement.
Provides back-up coverage for staff and manager; assists in daily office routine when needed in other areas.
Attends in-services and departmental meetings.
All other duties not specifically assigned.
Position Requirements
Education: N/A
Experience: Minimum three (3) years as a Licensed Practical Nurse with competence in all aspects of nursing care and independent decision making; telephone triage, emergency medicine, orthopaedics adult/pediatric ambulatory care, home health care, or ICU preferred.
Technical Skills: Skills required: Current clinical proficiency; excellent clinical skills, organizational and prioritization; communication, critical thinking and problem solving and basic computer skills.
Certifications/Licenses/Registrations: Current and valid license to practice practical nursing in the state of Ohio.
BLS required within three (3) months of hire.
Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:35PM-5PM
Status: Full-Time 40 hours per week
