Non-Ferrous Buyer

Metalico in Akron, OH is looking to fill a Non-Ferrous Buyer role to generate and maintain a new customer base of raw material (non-ferrous scrap) from the local market to supply plant requirements of non-ferrous, and occasional ferrous, scrap metal at competitive costs.
Essential Job Functions: Identify, pursue and sign-on new industrial accounts.
Purchase Non-Ferrous metals from industrial accounts.
Review and ensure materials purchased are priced and coded correctly before payment to customers.
Maintain good business contacts and favorable relations with current customers (scrap dealers, peddlers, and other suppliers) by regularly keeping in contact to ensure meeting plant requirements for non-ferrous scrap metal.
Maintain a list of industrial and commercial accounts producing scrap metal and contact on a regular basis to buy material (includes contact via phone and site visits).
Gather and maintain appropriate information about the local market for raw materials concerning cost trends, availability of supply, and competitor information.
Arrange economical transportation of material to the plant, ensure efficient handling of material (maintain strong communication and working relationship with the transportation department and operations).
Interact with the Operations Department concerning accurate grading based on the quality of scrap metal delivered to the plant.
Interact with scale operations to accurately input purchases across the scale.
Provide monthly reports including estimated inbound volume, type and grade of material, and price structure for material.
Protect and expand profit margins.
Enter and maintain internal software system supplier information and purchase contracts.
Learn and comply with SOX and antitrust rules and regulations, metal theft policies & scrap acceptance policies.
Employees may be assigned to special projects or may be required to perform other duties not listed above, which may vary from time to time as determined by management, to meet company needs.
Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

High school diploma required.
A college degree in business or engineering or equivalent business experience is desirable.
Up to 3 years of experience in a scrap business or 10 years in a related field, preferably in sales.
The ability to identify, grade, and determine quality non-ferrous metals is required.
The ability to identify, grade, and determine quality ferrous metals is preferred.
Working knowledge of basic computer programs including Microsoft Office Suite.
Positive attitude, proactive, goal-oriented, self-starter, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
Very strong interpersonal skills that will lend to a strong sales acumen.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Dependable, flexible and able to work in a fast-paced, changing environment.
Organized and attention to detail is required.
