As a participant in the Co-op/Intern Professional Development Program, you will be cultivating professional skills and performing professional level work at FirstEnergy.
Each participant will receive on-the-job training, and challenging assignments to refine skills and round out competencies.
Summer Internships with FirstEnergy are full-time opportunities spanning 14 weeks.
FirstEnergy offers paid internships to qualified students actively enrolled in accredited university or college.
As an IT ERP Developer intern at FirstEnergy, you will have hands-on experience with the technology used to support our business units at FirstEnergy.
You will be given challenging assignments that will have a direct impact on the team’s and business’ success.
Responsibilities of a Software Developer The tools, databases and technologies supported by Software Development interns vary across teams.
The following are some of possible technologies and roles an intern could have as an ERP Developer at FirstEnergy: Working on a team that develops, maintains, and enhances SAP solutions across different IS-U modules.
SAP uses ABAP a high-level programming language extracted from the base computing languages Java, C, C++ and Python.
Requirements Analysis: Assist in conducting workshops with business clients to obtain project requirements to ensure timely development of quality, accurate functional specifications.
Design: Analyze and interpret functional specifications or business requirements to support the development of technical specifications.
Construction: Develop SAP solutions that adhere to FirstEnergy’s development standards.
Anticipate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve development issues.
Test: Develop and execute detailed unit test plans.
Under the direction of others, work with the business clients during user acceptance testing.
Implementation: Provide clear documentation and production support of implemented functionality.
Accessing data structures like Oracle or SQL.
Assisting with SAP security and release management activities Learning the tools, databases, and technologies needed to report on large volumes of data Basic understanding of business transaction/accounting language such as debits or credits Production Support Investigate, debug, and resolve production problems reported with supported applications.
Respond to Help Desk tickets and provide support to business clients.
Monitor critical applications and provide support, as necessary.
All IT programming and development interns will have the opportunity to: Work closely with IT developers, IT business analysts, and FirstEnergy business employees to deliver IT solutions that help achieve business goals Receive training in the skill sets needed to meet individualized objectives and development needs Applicant Requirements: Currently enrolled, full time, in a bachelor’s degree program at an accredited university/college with a major in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Technology, Information Science or related major Class Standing – Graduation between Spring 2026 and Spring 2027 Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.
