Summary/Objective
The Director of Food Service will administer and oversee all aspects of the food service program, including budgeting, ordering, delivery, safety, menu creation, staff management, and ensuring service of healthy, nutritionally sound school meals in conformity with the philosophy and policies adopted by Summit Academy Management (“SAM”), the rules of the Governing Board, State Board of Education, Ohio Department of Education & Workforce (“ODEW”) Office of Child Nutrition, United States Department of Agriculture, the provisions of law, SAM directives, and sound administrative practice.
Responsibilities • Represent SAM in the coordination, oversight, and implementation of all aspects of the National School Breakfast Program, National School Lunch Program, and all other federal food programs.
• Maintain accurate records and prepare financial statements such as monthly meal reimbursement reports with the goal of obtaining net zero annual year-end balances.
• Develop procedures for implementing and maintaining food service accountability and point of sale in each school.
• Establish and oversee program processes and procedures for each school to ensure accountability, food safety, adequate nutrition, and exemplary customer service.
• Plan and analyze menus based on financial parameters, state and federal regulations, and nutritional guidelines including menu accommodations for students with special dietary needs.
• Work with each school's local Health Inspector to ensure compliance and annual license renewal.
• Effectively market the food program and communicate with students, staff, parents, and the community in a manner that reflects positively on the program and SAM.
• Assist in the education of parents and the community on a positive nutrition message.
• Develop specifications, bid documents, and testing procedures for procuring quality food, supplies, and equipment in a cost-effective manner.
• Collect and submit monthly CN6, CN7, and CN7-s information from each school for claims reimbursement from ODEW.
• Submit applications with the goal of new meal program initiation.
• Enter information into Claims Reimbursement Reporting System (CRRS), which includes site application, sponsor application, and vended meal contract information.
• Work with food vendors to obtain current products and freshest selections available.
• Maintain complete records to ensure determination of costs per item or meal.
• Train new employees and assist current employees in efficient job performance.
• Conduct in-service trainings for food service personnel quarterly or as needed.
• Purchase food and other supplies through designated SAM procedures, always ensuring the best prices are obtained on quality merchandise.
• Maintain and periodically verify inventory of food and supplies on hand.
• Ensure food service facilities and equipment are safe and in good working order and order repairs when needed.
• Willingly serve food at the building level in an emergency situation.
• Perform new program research and development.
• Coordinate state annual reviews and audit preparation, attendance, and follow-up with local reporting responsibilities.
• Annually participate in the Community Eligibility Program (CEP).
Employment Minimum Requirements • Bachelor's degree with preferred concentration in dietetics, institutional management, hotel and restaurant management or equivalent work experience in food service managerial position • Certification in ServSafe, first aid, and adult and child CPR • Member of national and state School Nutrition Associations • Knowledge in Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint • Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and Federal Bureau of Investigation • Meets all health requirements as mandated by law Competencies • Maintain an elevated level of confidentiality concerning all student and staff information, as well as all other confidential SAM and school matters • Work willingly and cooperatively with others to achieve maximum program performance and school satisfaction • Serve as a role model with respect to punctuality and duty activity • Understand and abide by the policies, directives, and guidelines as stated in all SAM and school manuals pertinent to the position • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Excellent organizational and time management abilities • A commitment to SAM’s mission and values • Possession of a strong work ethic, sound judgement, and cultural awareness • Ability to effectively organize, prioritize, adapt, and multi-task • Demonstration of exemplary customer service • Communication in a clear, concise manner • Compliance with and understanding of all applicable employment laws and regulations Supervisory Responsibility None Work Environment This job operates in a professional office environment.
